I read this online yesterday and it left me shaking my head. Corporate whores and the prospect of ROI dictate our morality, and the politicians are in it thick as thieves. Really, they don’t give a shit about anyone or anything. It’s all about money and keeping their power positions.

After reading about those two judges in Pennsylvania that were bribed by a private prison to send lots of inmates there, I am adamantly opposed to the privatization of prisons. If you privatize prisons, who’s going to be held accountable when there is abuse as what happened with the prisons aforementioned.

No accountability = smaller government

What are you, pro big government or something?

FREE MARKETS!

Really, is anyone surprised that this is happening? This kind of crap ALWAYS happens in situations like this, but nope, no regulation needed here, it’s just: “We’ll play fair…trust us.”

They’re heavily regulated and no worse than federal/state run prisons and keeping people in jail is a money making proposition even if you remove all privately run prisons. Recently there were stories out of IN and CA about prison reform where the state sanctioned groups like the correctional guard union fought hard to keep the laws like they are. The more inmates they control, the more money flows.

This isn’t a left/right problem. We’ve been throwing billions of dollars away keeping people locked up for petty shit and no one wants to let go of the teat.
